New Tires Near Medford

There are some things you can check to ensure your tires are in good condition. We've listed warning signs that will let you know if your car needs new tires..

Tread Depth

Your tires' tread depth is one indicator that you need new tires near Medford. The tread depth should never be less than 1/16 of an inch. If you frequently drive on wet roads, you'll need double that amount. You can buy gauges to measure the depth, or you can use the tried-and-true penny test. Get a penny, hold it so that Lincoln's head faces down, and place it into the tread. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, it's a sign your car needs new tires.

Tread Wear Indicator Bar

Today's tires have a built-in tread wear indicator bar. They won't show when the tire's new, but as the tire wears, they'll begin to appear as flat rubber bars that run perpendicular to the direction of the tread. If you can see more than two of these bars, it means the tread is low.

Cracks in the Sidewall

Tire problems can also manifest in the sidewall. Check your tires and look for cuts or cracks in the sidewall. It may be a sign the tire is starting to leak or is almost ready to blow out. If you notice problems in the sidewall, bring your car to the tire experts at Burns Hyundai for an inspection.

Bulges and Blisters

Bulges and blisters on the tire are a sign the outer surface is starting to weaken. This can cause a sudden blowout while you're driving. A blowout on the highway is extremely dangerous. So, if you notice a bulge or blister on your tire, bring it to the Burns Hyundai Service Center right away.

Vibration

If you notice your vehicle is vibrating more than usual, it can be a sign that there's an internal problem in the tires. There are other causes of vibration, including misaligned tires and worn shock absorbers. But even if the problem isn't caused by the tires, vibrations can damage the tires. If you notice your car's vibrating when you're driving on a smooth roadway, it's time to bring it in for service.
