While last year's Sonata was one of the best midsize sedans available, the arrival of the updated 2018 Hyundai Sonata places it firmly alongside rivals such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. When you see the new Sonata at a dealer like Hyundai Burlington, you'll understand why Hyundai hasn't decided to give the model a total overhaul.
The Sonata's roomy, comfortable interior now looks even more sophisticated, thanks to changes to the center console and the introduction of a new three-spoke steering wheel. Whether you're driving to work during the week or going on a weekend road trip, you'll appreciate the Sonata's excellent ride and large trunk. According to Hyundai Dealer Burlington, the trunk provides a full 16.3 cubic feet of space.
There are seven trim levels available: SE, Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T. The wealth of choices means you can get a Sonata configured as a basic value sedan or fully loaded with comforts and conveniences. But that doesn't mean the base SE skimps on features; you'll still find a lot here to enjoy.

The Boston Globe had this to say about the 2018 Hyundai Sonata: "The Hyundai Sonata takes a big step forward for 2018. It combines key infotainment features, expanded safety features, and a nice design refresh with a range of engine choices, along with prices that fit the needs of every midsize sedan shopper."
Along with updated exterior styling, the 2018 Hyundai Sonata also gets upgraded steering and suspension designed to provide an even better ride. All Sonata trims now have standard lane change assist and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. Last year's HID/xenon headlights are replaced by upgraded LED headlights. 2.0T trims now have a new eight-speed automatic transmission instead of 2017's six-speed gearbox.
There are three engine choices for the 2018 Hyundai Sonata:
- SE, SEL, Sport and Limited trims get a 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
- Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T models get a turbocharged 2.0-liter block that generates 245 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, teamed to a new eight-speed automatic.
- The Eco trim is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that puts out 178 hp and 195 lb.-ft., paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic.
