The 2023 Hyundai KONA is a subcompact SUV that provides buyers at dealerships like the Berlin Hyundai dealer with nimble handling, a long list of standard features, and outstanding fuel economy. Hyundai KONA drivers also love the fast acceleration from the available turbocharged engine. The KONA's small footprint makes it perfect for urban driving. And it's reasonably priced, which makes it a great value.
According to the Berlin Hyundai dealership, the 2023 Hyundai KONA comes in five trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, Limited and N. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, and all models except the N get available all-wheel drive. There's also a KONA Electric model, a separate vehicle we're not reviewing in this article.

The KONA SE and SEL trims are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The N Line and Limited trims are powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder block generating 195 hp and 195 lb-ft, coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The performance-oriented KONA N employs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 276 hp and 289 lb-ft, paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. This unit can be temporally boosted to 286 hp. According to Hyundai, the KONA gets a zero-to-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds with this engine.
CNET gives the Hyundai KONA high marks, writing:
"[The Hyundai KONA] transcends what you expect from it, making every journey an entertaining and exciting one. I've had more fun in this front-wheel-drive crossover than any sports car or supercar I've had the pleasure of driving, with even grocery runs sending me into a fit of giggles."
Fuel economy is outstanding. The 2023 Hyundai KONA gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of up to 30 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway with the base engine and front-wheel drive.*
Standard features for the base Hyundai KONA SE trim include 16-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, a height-adjustable driver's seat, heated mirrors, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a stereo system with six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and three USB ports.
Standard driver-assistance features include lane departure mitigation, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning with rear-cross traffic alert, and a safe exit system.
As of this writing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't evaluated the 2023 Hyundai KONA. However, the previous model received the organization's highest score of Good in all crash tests. We expect to see identical results for the 2023 KONA. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated the 2023 KONA five out of five stars for overall safety.
