The redesigned 2022 Hyundai Tucson makes waves at the Philadelphia Hyundai dealer and at dealerships across the country. Tucson buyers appreciate this compact SUV's luxurious interior, bold new exterior styling, and long list of standard safety features. Hyundai updates the Tucson's tech and connectivity features, and buyers can now choose between gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

According to the Philly Hyundai dealer, there are seven trim levels. The gas-powered 2022 Hyundai Tucson comes in four trims: SE, SEL, N Line and Limited. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models get three trim levels: Blue Hybrid, SEL Convenience Hybrid and Limited Hybrid.

Powering the gasoline models is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 182 lb-ft, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid and PHEV models employ a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit. This engine puts out 227 hp in the hybrid and 261 hp in the plug-in hybrid. All models come with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The four gasoline-powered trims can choose front-wheel drive or opt for all-wheel drive. The hybrid models come with all-wheel drive.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson delivers a smooth ride and composed handling. The cabin shields the vehicle's occupants from engine and road noise, even at highway speeds.

The gas engine gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city/33 mpg highway for models with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel-drive Tucsons check in with 24 mpg city/29 mpg highway. The Tucson Hybrid returns 38 mpg city/38 mpg highway. The PHEV is rated at 80 MPGe combined, with the ability to drive 33 miles with electric-only driving.

The automotive media is excited about the 2022 Tucson. Car and Driver writes:

"Previewed by the Vision T concept at the 2019 LA auto show, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson sports a daring new design that seems destined to shake up the compact-SUV marketplace. ... All models are fairly well equipped and the Tucson is among the most stylish options in the segment. It goes head-to-head with several strong rivals such as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, and the Volkswagen Tiguan, but the new Tucson has brought its A-game."

The base Tucson SE trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry, LED headlights, cloth seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo system, Bluetooth, HD Radio, two USB ports and a wireless charger. Buyers can upgrade to an optional 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with built-in navigation.

Standard safety features include a driver attention warning system, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision mitigation, and a rear-seat reminder.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2022 Tucson the top marks of Good in all crash tests and named it a Top Safety Pick+, the organization's highest safety designation. As of this writing, the 2022 Tucson has yet to be tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. However, last year's model received the best rating of five stars. We expect to see the same score this year.
