The Elantra is economically priced, yet still offers a nice feature set and a sophisticated cabin. Buyers looking for a versatile compact sedan that won't break the bank should place the 2020 Hyundai Elantra at the top of their shopping list.

For 2020, the Hyundai Elantra gets an upgraded CVT that Hyundai refers to as an Intelligent Variable Transmission. According to Hyundai Philadelphia, this gearbox helps the Elantra realize improved fuel economy. The 2020 Hyundai Elantra also gets newly standard features that include lane-keeping assist, driver-attention monitoring and forward-collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking. Also standard this year is dual-zone automatic climate control.

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra seats five and ad is offered in six trim levels: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Limited and Sport. All models get standard front-wheel drive. These are the engine choices:

  • The 2020 Elantra SE, SEL and Limited trims are powered a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, mated to the new CVT.
  • Under the hood of the Elantra Eco trim is a 1.4-liter turbo-four that produces 128 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque, teamed to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is a hit with owners, as well as the automotive press. The experts at Edmunds wrote: "There's no dispute, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra is really impressive. After a substantial makeover last year, Hyundai has made even more improvements this year. The bigger takeaway from these developments is that the compact-sedan scene is alive, well and thriving. Otherwise, why would major manufacturers make such an effort?"

In addition to the new features mentioned earlier, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra gets standard features that include 15-inch steel wheels and a 5-inch infotainment display. The SEL trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and smartphone integration.

Standard features on the Value Edition include heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof, lock/unlock functions and remote start. The Limited comes with automatic high beams, leather upholstery, an upgraded stereo system and two USB ports. The Limited also gets an options package that features an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, driver's-side memory settings and adaptive cruise control. The Sport includes 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, sport front seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

One of the features we particularly like is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's power trunk. While some power trunks make you wave your foot behind the vehicle, the Elantra allows the driver to open the trunk automatically by standing behind the car with the key fob in a pocket or purse. After a few seconds, the trunk opens.

Elantra owners appreciate Hyundai's spectacular warranty, which includes a 5-year/60,000-mile standard warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
