View our extensive inventory | Hyundai Dealership Serving PhillyThe 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe gets a redesign that transforms it from a three-row to a two-row crossover. In fact, the new Santa Fe is really a redesign of the outgoing Santa Fe Sport. Taking the place of the three-row Santa Fe will be a new Santa Fe XL model, scheduled for later release at dealers like the Philly Hyundai Dealer. Hyundai plans to make the XL model available for a year, after which it will be replaced by a new, as-yet-unnamed vehicle.

Hyundai made the 2019 Santa Fe longer and wider than last year's model. Already roomy, the Santa Fe gets even more interior space this year. There's also ample cargo space to store and stow gear, with a total maximum capacity of 71.3 cubic feet. The SEL Plus and higher trims get a sliding rear seat to accommodate cargo.

The cabin is now even more attractive than the previous model. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a 7-inch touchscreen. Advanced safety features that come as options on some other vehicles in its class now come standard on the Santa Fe, including a drowsy driving warning system, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and Safe Exit Assist. According to Philly Hyundai, Safe Exit Assist prevents the Santa Fe's door from opening if it senses another vehicle approaching from the rear.

Car and Driver gave the redesigned 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe thumbs up, writing: "Hyundai is on a good track. For starters, the new ute looks more grown-up and handsome. The rear glass is more vertical, a boon to headroom for the sort-of-optional third-row seats (more on that later) and cargo space. With shorter overhangs, a longer wheelbase, greater length, and slightly more girth than the '18 Santa Fe Sport, interior space is up, too."

There are five trim levels on offer: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited and Ultimate. All models are powered by a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The Limited and Ultimate trims can be equipped with an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 235 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A 2.2-liter diesel four-cylinder engine that develops 190 hp and 322 lb.-ft. will be available in 2020. All models come with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive.

EPA fuel economy ratings aren't in yet, but according to Hyundai, drivers can expect a three to four percent increase over last year's model.

Standard features on the base SE trim include 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, rear privacy glass, LED daytime running lights, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rearview camera, a 7-inch display screen, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker audio system with a CD player and four USB ports.

One new standard safety feature we like is called Rear Occupants Alert. This system uses an ultrasound sensor to detect movement in the backseat. If movement is detected, it warns the driver of the possible presence of a child or a pet by sounding the horn as well as through a connected app.
