View our extensive inventory | Hyundai Dealership Serving Toms RiverThe 2019 Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan that's noted for its sophisticated and comfortable cabin, outstanding fuel economy and sporty looks. There are three engines and six trim levels to choose from. The folks at the Hyundai dealer in Toms River pointed out that buyers also like the Elantra's great value, as well as Hyundai's incredible warranty. The Hyundai Elantra is compared with the 2019 Honda Civic, another popular compact model. We'll examine the two vehicles head to head and discover which one is the better buy.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is less expensive than the 2019 Honda Civic. The starting MSRP of the Tucson is $22,500, while the CR-V has a starting MSRP of $24,250. That's a difference of $1,750, money you'll probably want to keep in your pocket.

Fuel Economy

When you examine the fuel efficiency of both vehicles, you'll find the Elantra wins this category, too. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra SE has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 26 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The 2019 Honda Civic LX nearly matches the Elantra, with an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Additionally, Elantra drivers will go further on a tank of gas, thanks to its larger gas tank, which is 1.6 gallons larger than the Civic's tank.

Anyone who has tried to get items into the trunk with their hands full knows how frustrating it can be. Hyundai has solved that problem with its available hands-free smart release system. Owners simply stand behind the Elantra for three seconds with the proximity key in a pocket or purse and the trunk opens automatically. This feature isn't offered on the Honda Civic.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra has longer warranty coverage than the Honda Civic. The Elantra comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The Honda Civic only gets a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Additionally, the Elantra comes with free roadside assistance for 5 years and unlimited miles. This includes tire changes, towing, lock-out service and more. Civic owners only get roadside assistance for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Our Recommendation

There's no doubt the 2019 Hyundai Elantra and the 2019 Honda Civic are both excellent compact cars. While deciding which one to buy can be a matter of personal preference, we believe the Elantra is the winner here, thanks to its outstanding value. The Elantra is less expensive and has a warranty that could potentially save owners even more money. These are some of the reasons we recommend the Hyundai Elantra over the Honda Civic
