The 2017 Hyundai Sonata is offered in seven trim levels, listed as SE, Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board. There are three four-cylinder engines on offer:
- The SE, SEL, Sport and Limited trims are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata received the highest rating of Good in all IIHS crash tests and was named a Top Safety Pick by the organization. The NHTSA gave the Sonata it's top score of five stars overall.
